Protecting Your Child's Future
While the regulations governing juvenile court are vastly different than those in adult courts, the outcomes of a juvenile crime are no less serious. A juvenile conviction can have a lasting effect on your goals and potentially limit your future opportunities if not properly handled and guided by an experienced juvenile defense attorney.
The attorneys of the Dixon Law Group, PLLC, have extensive experience representing children and teenagers, and their families, facing criminal charges in juvenile court. Since 1978, we have represented individuals and families in Greenville, North Carolina, and throughout the surrounding communities in a variety of legal contexts. When you need experienced juvenile defense, we have the local knowledge and resources to help you protect your child's rights and future.
About the Juvenile Court System
In order to be tried in juvenile court, the defendant must be under the age of 16 at the time the alleged offense was committed. Unlike adults, children tried in juvenile court do not have the right to a jury trial. Certain regulations also prevent police officers from directly talking with children, protecting their right to prevent self-incrimination. Additionally, all juvenile records are sealed, and remain sealed, once the accused becomes an adult.
Attorneys for Juvenile Shoplifting, Underage Drinking and Other Offenses
If your child has been accused of a criminal offense, you want an attorney who understands these key differences to make sure he or she is afforded the full protections the juvenile court provides. Our Greenville juvenile defense attorneys regularly represent children and teenagers accused of:
- Underage drinking
- Shoplifting or petty theft
- Robbery or larceny
- Traffic offenses such as underage driving or joyriding
- Drug possession or distribution
- Sex offenses
Unlike adult courts, juvenile courts often focus on rehabilitation rather than punishment, and penalties are often given in attempt to help kids reform. We seek to become a part of that rehabilitation process, helping clients understand all the possible outcomes and working diligently to mitigate consequences.
